Getting ready. Get set. Bulletproof.

I asked myself why I’ve struggled so much lately with weight gain. The simple answer is that I eat too much of the wrong foods. It’s more complicated than that though. Like everything in life, there are many layers and reasons for lifelong struggles. I don’t want to unpack everything here now, maybe later, but the one thing I want to focus on is when I started with the struggle.

As a child I ate breakfast, usually cereal, or toast, nothing particularly out of the normal. As I reached adulthood I quit eating breakfast because I wasn’t hungry. I would eat a late morning snack plus lunch and dinner. Yet there was a big push that everyone must eat a big breakfast for energy for the rest of the day. I gave in and ate an early morning meal, even when I wasn’t hungry. It was here I started my yoyo weight gain and dieting.

As I looked around for yet another fad diet, I couldn’t find one that resonated with me.  It wasn’t clear to me what I was looking for, but I knew past diets didn’t work. I would get foggy, or light-headed, or fatigued to the point when walking up the stairs felt like I was dragging twice my weight up. Plus the weight loss stopped after the second week.  There were the headaches, and terrible food cravings, not to mention how cranky I would become.  There were so many things to overcome to get this weight off.

Each diet I researched seemed to have one gimmicky hook to lure a dieter in, but nothing to help with side consequences of dieting. I found Bulletproof diet by accident. It seem to be an answer to a lot of my issues. Imagine my surprise when I read that breakfast consisted of rich coffee and nothing else. And I almost wept with joy when I read that brown rice, kale, and quinoa were on their so-called cryptonite list. I could go on about the benefits of the bulletproof diet, but I’ll leave it at the fact that I no longer have to eat breakfast if I don’t need it.

Today and tomorrow I’ll clean out my kitchen,  fill my fridge with bulletproof foods. I officially start my diet when the bulletproof coffee, and the Brain Octane oil arrive in the mail. More on that and other diet related thoughts and progress in a day or two. I’m looking forward to Bulletproofing my life.

Lean, mean, green juice.

For the next three days, I’m drinking 2 twelve oz cups of fresh pressed green juice. Recipe: 3 Granny Smith apples, 2 celery stalks, 1 inch ginger, 1/4 pineapple, 1/3 bunch of cilantro, big handful leafy greens, 1 cucumber. I’m also having about 1 quart of vegetable soup and 1/4 cup of mixed whole nuts– cashews, walnuts and sunflower seeds. I hope I don’t starve to death before The Voice airs tonight.

Finally, here I am. This blog is for me, mainly to chart my progress. I’m calling this my Life Do-Over. There is a lot to change in my life, including diet, exercise, etc. Today the focus is just getting this down on the blog and my first day of a food detox. As I get more comfortable with the format, I’ll get into details of the why’s, how’s, and when’s later.

I don’t know what to write…

so I’ll just think about it.
